First Income Report
Hello and welcome to my first income report! Please forgive me if this report is not up-to-par with other income reports that you may be familiar with, such as: Tom Ewer's Blog - Leaving Work Behind. This is my first ever attempt at writing and income report, but I felt that it was absolutely necessary in order to maintain complete transparency with my readers and subscribers. As I promised in one of my last posts here, starting in January of 2013, and going forward, I wanted to start posting monthly income reports.
Background Information
One thing to remember while reading my income reports is the fact that I am still working at my regular job. Currently, my internet marketing efforts are something that I am working on strictly on-the-side (nights & weekends). I usually work on each of my websites approximately 2 - 4 hours (combined) each evening, and approximately 6 - 8 hours (total combined time) on Saturday. All in all, right now I am able to put in around 15 hours a week to build my internet business. However, as many of you will learn for yourselves, when you are "learning the business" and "building your business" at the same time, sometimes you spend more time learning, and sometimes you spend more time doing. It is a constant battle on my part to focus some of my time on each task (both learning / researching, and actually getting something done).
I have managed to completely teach myself about how to build WordPress sites (I personally built all of my websites without any outside assistance other than reading tutorials), then try to learn how to market those sites in Google and other search engines (the art of SEO), and marketing my websites on social media sites such as Twitter, G+, Facebook, etc. I have proceeded to do all of that...in just 15 hours a week!
It has been quite a journey up to this point just to get my little head wrapped around everything that I need to do:
- Get organized enough to do it!
- Then try not to fall asleep in my chair after having worked a 10 - 12 hour day at the ole' J-O-B!
I am telling you all of this just to let you know that it is possible to get things rolling, even if you do have to do it slowly at first. So far I have managed to build 3 primary websites, 5 web 2.0 sites (I'll discuss these sites in more detail in a later posts), and I have been able to do it all in around 15 hours a week. It is possible!
Without Further Ado... I Present "The Report":

What the ?!?!
That's not an Income report... more like an Expenses report! Well, I said that I wanted to be honest and transparent with you, so that's it. That's the truth! I haven't started making any money just yet, but my traffic has started increasing, and I have had allot of new subscribers over the past month, so things are looking up, but this is a slow process, as I have written about before. If you want to build something that will last, you must be willing to put in the effort!
In the future I will probably start including things like a table that shows my traffic reports, and possibly even my subscriber counts and how they have changed over time. Currently I have a total of 41 subscribers to my email list on MattsAffiliateJourney.com. It has normally been increasing around 3 - 7 subscribers a month so far.
The following is a short list that describes some of the expenditures that I have had on getting my sites started. It is also important to note that I actually start working on my websites in late August / early September of 2012, so all of these expenses that I have listed did not happen last month alone. However, since this is my first income / expense report, I am bringing you up to speed on all of my expenses thus far. Here is the breakdown:
- Matt's Affiliate Journey.com:
· $100 - Hosting (yearly) purchased from: (mt)
· $4 - Domain Name purchased from: (mt) - Domains from (mt) are only $4 if you already purchased hosting from them.
· $80 - Genesis Framework and Quattro Theme from: StudioPress - Carla's Natural Curls.com:
· $100 - Hosting (yearly) purchased from: (mt)
· $4 - Domain Name purchased from: (mt) - Domains from (mt) are only $4 if you already purchased hosting from them.
· $40 - (in)SPYR Theme from: StudioPress - Individual themes are only $40 from StudioPress if you already own the Genesis framework, which I purchased for Matt's Affiliate Journey (listed above). - Virtual Office Phone Service.net:
· $130 - Hosting (yearly) purchased from: Westhost.com
· $0 - Domain Name purchased from: Westhost.com - Domains from Westhost are free if you purchase one year of hosting from them up-front.
· $40 - Karma Theme from: TrueThemes via ThemeForest.net.
Thank you for allowing me to give you the "inside-story" on my internet marketing business. I look forward to bringing you a much more positive report in the near future. Hopefully the Lord will bless me in the form of some numbers in the "Earnings" column!

Hi Matt,
First let me say I love the look of this site! Nice theme, good color combo, etc; very clean and professional. Second, thanks for the details of your expense (income) report. It is great that you are honest and upfront about the fact that a business incurs costs (takes money to make money). I’ll be following your further reports and wish you great fortune as you move ahead!
Mike
Thanks for the really nice comment Mike. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment on my site, and I am truly grateful that my site has helped you in some way. You are correct! It does take money to make money. One thing about this business that I had to realize was, You can’t do everything yourself!. Just do the things that you are good at and hire someone else to do the others. Every business has expenses!
I look forward to writing more helpful things in the future as I learn them. Thanks again.
Regards,
Matt Vaden
